Mickey and his bitches at Los Cojones Del Perro pride themselves on the fact they only offer a unique and exclusive product. Each garment is produced in South Africa, and sent to a group of ladies who live in the townships here in Cape Town – UMOJA@Afrodite – where the ladies apply their own handwork to every garment in the form of beadwork and different styles of embroidery. The results are truly the dog’s bollocks… because each garment is totally unique and authentically exclusive, as no handwork can be controlled like a machine.
Plus, and much more importantly, we are helping to fight the war against severe unemployment in South Africa. And those who suffer most are the ones who have not had the opportunity of training or an education, or refugees from other African countries who therefore suffer greatly from the language barriers. By having the ladies at Umojo@Afridite customise each and every one of our garments come alive with the spirit of the amazing woman that have worked on them.
It is this amalgamation of cultures and creativity that highlights the diversity of product through a single line of garments, giving our customers the opportunity to choose a unique, hand customized garment that best suits their individual style. How considerate are we?!?!?

We are a group of ladies from diverse backgrounds, refugees as well as local members. Our group is an energetic, vibrant mix of cultures, truly African. Umoja means “we all come together” and we have come together to restore dignity through training, opportunities for growth and development by supporting each other, and provision of income generating activities such as beading and sewing. Any order placed in support of our project therefore helps rebuild dignity and empowers our members of the group.
In South Africa the biggest challenge is unemployment, although for some it is also language barriers or lack of support in initiating activities that help them to support themselves.
Our aim is to empower poor woman and thereby restore their dignity through training and provision of income generating activities, thereby creating a sustainable means of living for these women and their children. |
